Short Term Health Changes Coming in September
June 25, 2024
There are Federal policy changes that will go into effect Sept. 1, 2024, for Short-Term Health Plans.
What is changing?
- A person can purchase a 30, 60 or 90-day policy from same carrier as long coverage does not exceed 120 days and it is within a one-year period.
   - For example, a person can purchase BlueCross 90-day policy on February 1, 2025, and then purchase a BlueCross 30-day policy on May 1, 2025. After May 31, 2025, the person could not sign up for another BlueCross Short-Term Health Plan in 2025.

- Any enforced policies purchased prior to September 1, 2024, can be kept for the full term of the policy.
- The loss of a Short-Term Policy does not qualify as a Special Enrollment Period.
   - This is very important for current members whose plan may expire after Open Enrollment.

- BlueCross will continue to offer Short-Term Health Plans with 30, 60 and 90-day policies.
   - Every carrier that offers Short-Term Health coverage is subject to the new policy as of September 1, 2024.

We will release more information next month, to include:
- An updated version of BlueCross' Short-Term Health Product Brochure.
- Information on webinars you can attend to learn more.
- Details on outreach to current BlueCross Short-Term Health members.
